*I like to call this adult comedy
I’m sure there are people who don’t necessarily care for comedies such as House of Lies, Californication, Shameless, Eastbound & Down, etc. And truth be told, I’m not surprised. There is no problem with not being fans of them. They’re vulgar, contain nudity, and excessive drinking at times. To some people, that doesn’t necessarily equate to comedy.
I’m by all means not a wealthy management consultant (House of Lifes), womanizing middle-aged author (Californication) or any other character in the aforementioned shows. Each one though, does have a point at which I can relate though. And that’s where the comedy comes from. Truth be told, I have much more in common with some of these characters than I do with any one character on The Office.
I suppose I didn’t really begin writing this with a point in mind. If there was one, it would be that I appreciate these comedies because they don’t pretend to be something they’re not. Thankfully because of the cable station they’re on, they get to be exactly what they’re suppose to be, no punches pulled. While on the other hand, shows like 2 Broke Girls, have to masquerade themselves around, when truth be told, even I’m surprised with some of the stuff they get away with given their 8:30 time slot.
