One project this prison startup accelerator helped produce: a LinkedIn for the recently incarcerated.
*Without a doubt one of the most inspiring films I’ve seen.
There is so much that can be pulled from this video. It’s really hard to know where to start. Obviously the tone would change drastically, if you were to become aware of why some of these men are in prison. I know that’s not the point, but they are all serving lengthy sentences.
What’s really disappointing though, reason for incarceration aside, is that clearly these men all have, and had, such potential, but somewhere got lost along the way. This of course makes me think of the education system in the US. A system that is without a doubt failing. A system that helps those with the financial resources and does very little to help those that are struggling. Cue the cry of socialism, but I think it’s a shame that if the US were only to put lets say 10% of the money they’ve spent in Afghanistan or Iraq into education, so much could be different in the US. This includes the all important unemployment rate.
I think it’s great to demonstrate that these men do have potential, and it is important not to write the incarcerated off, but so much more needs to be done for the youth of America.
