I'm aware it happens a lot in the US, I posted it because it's a local issue that I thought my friends from here would stand behind. I'm pretty sure the girl was suspended/expelled from school over it as well, which is nuts because that should be separate. Becoming a sex offender because of a mere few years, even while being in a relationship prior, happens in hetero relationships as well, but I don't think this would have been blown to this proportion if they weren't lesbians.

I agree with you, but just to play devil’s advocate, I think that this girl is lucky in a sense that she happened to be a lesbian. It’s because of this that this has the amount of attention it’s gotten, where as the cases involving heterosexual relationships, most likely would fall below the radar.
In either case, it’s unfortunate.
Literally takes a minute. I sincerely hope these charges get dropped. Outrageous.

It’s an issue that affects many individuals who have “committed” similar crimes. I’ll post the article I have once I find it, but it goes into the details of how easily it is to become a “sex offender” and how the sometime lifelong consequences of that sentence can drastically impact someones life.
Discussing this case specifically though, I do understand that as inane as the details of this prosecution may seem, it is extremely difficult to change these laws because of the precedents that may be set as a result.
